There are many ways to use the Amp Match feature in the BIAS Amp plugin. Below are our suggestions to use Amp Match in plugin version. We will use Apple's Logic Pro X as example in this article.
Using Single Track
1) Launch Logic Pro X, select your audio interface and create at least 1 audio track.
2) Open the Mixer Page or Inspector View, and make sure the input selected is the correct one. The input you select in this step should be the input that your guitar is connected to on your audio interface. If you intend to use an audio track as your Source or Target, the input setting can be ignored.
3) Insert the BIAS Amp plug-in to the FX slot of the current track, and launch the BIAS Amp plugin in Logic Pro.
4) In the BIAS Amp plugin, first you have to select the Source Amp - a similar-sounding amp from BIAS’ presets. This will place your source guitar’s tone in the ballpark of where you want Amp Match to take it. Usually we will recommend to select the amps in the same genre. For example, if you would like to match a tone in Metal style, we recommend selecting a preset from Metal genre as your Source Amp.
5) Once you've decided on your Source Amp, please go to the Amp Match module, and select the Source Mode.
6) Enable the Monitor Icon of audio track to allows the audio to be input to Logic Pro, then click on the SAMPLE button in the Amp Match module to start the capture process. Please strum your guitar during the capture process in order to allow the Amp Match module to record your source tone. If you are using an audio file as your source tone, you can just play the audio file in Logic Pro during the capture process.
7) After the source capture process is finished, click the SAMPLE button again to stop, disable the Monitor Icon, then click Target to enter Target Mode.
8) Select the input of your Target amp in the input slot, and enable the Monitor Icon again to allow the audio to be inputted to Logic Pro, then click on the SAMPLE button on Amp Match module to start the capture process. Please strum your guitar during the capture process to allow the Amp Match module to record your target tone. If you are using an audio file as your target tone, you can just play the audio file in Logic Pro during the capture process. The input volume can be adjusted by using the TARGET VOL knob.
9) After the target capture process is finished, click the SAMPLE button again to stop, disable the Monitor Icon, then click the Match button to enter Match Mode. Before entering Match Mode, please remember to disable the Monitor Icon and select the input which is same as Source Mode to avoid audio feedback.
10) In Match Mode, you can enable the TURN ON button in the Amp Match module and enable the Monitor Icon on the audio track to preview the result. You can fine-tune the matched tone and level by adjusting the five knobs on the right-hand side of the Amp Match module. You can also repeat steps 5 through 9 if you feel you didn’t get the perfect results the first time.
Using Multiple Tracks with Bus/Send Track
Many DAWs (digital audio workstations) provide the Send/Bus tracks function to manage the audio output of your tracks. By using this function, you can send multiple audio outputs from your tracks to the same Send or Bus track, so we can collect the Source and Target data via the Send/Bus track.
1) Launch Logic Pro X, select your audio interface and create at least 2 audio tracks.
2) Open the Mixer Page, and set the Send of your two tracks to the same Bus track. You should see the Bus track appear in the Mixer Page after being selected.
3) Drag the Send Volume knob to 0 dB, solo the Bus track, and make sure the input is set to the correct one. The input should be where your source guitar is connected to, or Target amp. If you intend to use an audio track as your Source or Target, then the input setting can be ignored.
4) Insert the BIAS Amp plugin in the FX slot on the Bus track, and launch the BIAS Amp plugin in Logic Pro.
5) In the BIAS Amp plugin, first you have to select the Source Amp - a similar-sounding amp from BIAS’ presets. This will place your source guitar’s tone in the ballpark of where you want Amp Match to take it. We recommend that you select amps from the same genre. For example, if you would like to match a tone in Metal style, we recommend selecting a preset from te Metal genre as your Source Amp.
6) Once you've decided on your Source Amp, please go to the Amp Match module, and select the Source Mode.
