Connection & Getting Set-up BIAS Head/Rack

The connections, conversion, output, and circuitry inside BIAS Head and BIAS Rack are the foundation of their sound quality. Using state-of-the-art Op-Amps, AD/DA conversion, and unparalleled DSP power, these units deliver the highest grade audio you will find in the studio, at home, and on the road.

Basic Setup

Step 1: Connect Power

Plug in the power cable on the rear panel, and connect it to an electrical outlet.

Step 2: Connect Your Guitar

Insert the cable connected to your guitar into the front ¼" Hi-Z Jack input located on the front panel.

Step 3: Connect to Cabinet (Amplifier Version Only)

This step applies only to the Amplifier version (Silver model) with built-in power amp.

Connect a Speaker cable (TS ¼") from the powered output on the back to a cabinet rated 4, 8, or 16 Ohms.

DI Output Options

If you're using Direct Output with the built-in Cabinet Simulation:

XLR Output (Balanced):

Plug one (or two for stereo) XLR cables into the XLR outputs on the rear panel, and connect to a powered speaker or PA system.

¼" Line Output (Unbalanced):

If you're connecting to a powered monitor, external power amp, or don't have XLR cables, use the unbalanced TS/TRS ¼" Jack outputs.

Ground Lift

When connecting multiple pieces of equipment (pedals, audio interfaces, etc.), you may experience hum issues. While balanced cables (XLR) help reduce hum, they may not eliminate it completely.

To solve this problem, use the GROUND LIFT button located towards the right of the unbalanced outputs (TRS ¼" Jack). Pressing this button should eradicate any hum issues.

Setting Levels

Once you're fully connected to either a powered monitor or cabinet, follow these steps to set proper levels:

  1. Select the preset you'd like to start with.
  2. For BIAS Head: Keep the INPUT level at 6 with the OUTPUT dial at 0.
  3. For BIAS Rack: Keep the OUTPUT dial at 0.
  4. Keep all other dials in the 12 o'clock position.
  5. Gently raise the OUTPUT dial to a level you're comfortable with.
BIAS Head and BIAS Rack are designed to work at a constant volume. No matter how much the INPUT, DISTORTION, or POWER AMP dials are pushed, the overall volume is controlled via the OUTPUT dial.
