How to Fix Crackling or Popping Noises in BIAS X Audio Output

Symptom: You're hearing crackling, popping, or other artifacts in your audio output while using BIAS X.

These audio artifacts are often caused by high CPU load, low buffer settings, or incompatible sample rates.

How to Fix Crackling or Popping in Audio

  1. Check System Requirements

  2. Increase Buffer Size and Adjust Sample Rate

    • Set your audio buffer size to 256 or 512 samples to reduce CPU load (latency may increase slightly).
    • Use a sample rate of 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz for better system compatibility.
  3. Check Input/Output Settings

    • In the bottom bar of BIAS X, monitor input/output levels and avoid clipping.
    • Ensure your Input Mode (Mono or Stereo) matches your setup.
    • When using Stereo, select two active input channels—otherwise, BIAS X defaults to Mono.
  4. Monitor DSP Load

    • Heavy presets can overload your CPU—try simplifying your signal chain.
    • Power off any unused gear modules.
    • Switch from Dual Amp to Single Amp mode for lower DSP usage.
    DSP Load Meter
Don't see the DSP Load meter? Go to Settings > Preferences and enable it manually.
  5. Close Other Apps and Background Processes

    • Quit any unnecessary background applications.
    • Use Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (macOS) to monitor CPU and RAM usage.
