Is RIFF Detected by Your Computer?

Start by checking whether your computer recognizes RIFF as a connected device:


No Sound from RIFF

If RIFF is connected and detected but you hear no sound, check these common causes:

  1. Step 1: Check RIFF's output volume

    Make sure RIFF's output level is turned up (not at zero or too low).

  2. Step 2: Check your speakers or headphones

    Ensure your speakers or headphones are connected to RIFF's output, powered on, and the volume is turned up.

  3. Step 3: Select RIFF as the audio device

    In BIAS FX 2 or your DAW, go to Audio Settings and make sure RIFF is selected as both the input and output device.

  4. Step 4: Check the input signal

    Make sure your guitar's volume is turned up and the guitar cable is not broken. Turn up the input gain on RIFF until the input signal shows on RIFF's screen.

  5. Step 5: Reconnect RIFF

    Unplug and reconnect RIFF directly to the computer (not via a USB hub). On Windows, make sure the RIFF driver is installed.


RIFF (USB Device) Not Recognized in Windows

When you connect RIFF and the "USB device not recognized" message appears, it does not necessarily mean the device is dead. The error is usually caused by a software or hardware setting that can be fixed.

Common Causes

  • The device is not connected successfully.
  • The driver is not installed or loaded correctly.
  • System settings are preventing the device from being recognized.
  • Windows needs an update.

Step 1: Unplug and replug the device

Reconnect RIFF to your computer, preferably not via any USB hub.

Step 2: Reinstall the driver and restart

Reinstall RIFF's Windows driver, then restart your computer.

Step 3: Check and change ports

Try using a different USB port on your computer.

Step 4: Change USB Root Hub settings

Windows may turn off USB devices to save power. To prevent this:

  1. Open Device Manager and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  2. Double-click USB Root Hub (USB 3.0).
  3. Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power". Click OK.

Step 5: Change USB Selective Suspend settings

The selective suspend setting may allow Windows to automatically suspend USB devices:

  1. Right-click the Windows button and select Power Options.
  2. Click Additional power settings.
  3. Click Change plan settingsChange advanced power settings.
  4. Expand USB settings > USB selective suspend setting.
  5. Set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" to Disabled. Click Apply, then OK.

Step 6: Update Windows

Go to Settings > Update & Security and install any available updates. Restart your computer after updating.
