Using the Looper in the Spark App (Supported Models Only)

The Simple Looper lets you record a loop and dub additional layers on top. Tap the Music page in the Spark app, then tap the Simple Looper banner.

• (A) Looper Settings — tap to adjust loop parameters (BPM, Loop Length, Count, Click).
• (B) Undo / Redo — removes or restores the last recorded dub layer.
• (C) Record / Dub, Progress Circle — start recording or dubbing; see time left before the loop repeats.
• (D) Mixer — adjust loop and click volume.
• (E) Discard — discards the current loop.

The looper records up to 60 seconds, with one loop stored on your Spark amp at a time.

Time Settings

Tap the Looper Settings area to enter the menu.

• BPM — tap the center 3+ times to use Tap Tempo, or tap the edge of the circle and rotate the dial. Range: 40-400 BPM.
  • BPM follows the current preset's BPM. Changing preset before recording updates the looper BPM.
  • Once a loop is recorded, changing preset no longer changes the looper BPM.
  • The 60-second limit applies — some BPM/Loop Length combinations are grayed out (e.g. at 40 BPM, 12-bar and 16-bar options are unavailable).
• Click Toggle:
  • On (Auto Mode) — a metronome is provided; recording begins after a 4-beat count-in and stops automatically when loop length is reached.
  • Off (Signal Detection Mode) — recording begins when a guitar signal is detected; tap the record button again to stop.
• Loop Length — choose a fixed length, or Free (loop stops when you tap the record button).
• Count — choose between straight 4/4 feel and shuffle 4/4 feel.

Start Recording

Tap the record button in the middle of the circle. Behavior depends on your Click and Loop Length settings:

• Click On (Auto Mode): a 4-beat count-in plays, then recording begins.
  • Length not Free — recording stops automatically at the set loop length. Tapping record early still ends the recording, but the loop keeps its full length (the remainder plays as silence on the first loop).
  • Length is Free — tap the record button again to stop; playback starts immediately from the beginning of the loop.
• Click Off (Signal Detection Mode): the button breathes and recording starts as soon as a guitar signal is detected. Tap the record button again to stop.

After a recording is complete, looper settings cannot be adjusted until you discard the loop.

Dub, Undo & Redo

Tap the center of the circle to begin dubbing. The metronome click will not sound during dubbing (even if Click is on) so you can follow your original recording.

• Dubbing starts from the moment you press the dub button.
• You can dub as many layers as you want.
• A dub can span multiple cycles of the base loop (e.g. a 20-second dub over a 10-second base loop covers 2 cycles).

Undo / Redo:

• Tap Undo to remove the last recorded layer; the button switches to Redo.
• Tap Redo to restore the layer; the button switches back to Undo.
• If there are no dubs, Undo/Redo is disabled.
• Warning: if you Undo a layer, then record a new dub, the previously removed layer is discarded permanently and cannot be restored.

Discard & Mixer

Discard — tap the Discard icon (bottom-left) to remove the current loop. A confirmation dialog appears.

Mixer — tap the Mixer icon to adjust the loop volume and click volume. Click volume is also affected by your phone's volume — turn it up first and then fine-tune here.

Groove Looper expands on the Simple Looper with realistic drum patterns to accompany your loops. Tap the Music page in the Spark app, then tap the Groove Looper banner.

• (A) Looper Settings — tap to adjust loop parameters.
• (B) Drum Selection Menu — add drum patterns to your loop.
• (C) Undo / Redo — removes or restores the last recorded dub layer.
• (D) Record / Dub — start recording or dubbing.
• (E) Mixer — adjust loop and click volume.
• (F) Discard — discards the current loop.

Time Settings

Tap the Looper Settings area to enter the menu.

• BPM — tap the center 3+ times for Tap Tempo, or rotate the dial. Range: 40-400 BPM. BPM follows the current preset's BPM until a loop is recorded (same as Simple Looper).
• Ending Toggle:
  • On — an ending drum fill plays when you stop playback.
  • Off — playback stops immediately with no fill.
• Loop Length — choose the length of the loop from preset options.
• Count — choose between straight 4/4 and shuffle 4/4 feel. This affects which drum patterns are available:
  • Straight feel — Rock, Funk, and Pop drum patterns available (Blues is hidden).
  • Shuffle feel — Blues drum patterns available (Rock, Funk, and Pop are hidden).

Adding Drums

Tap the add drum button on the top circle. You cannot start recording until a drum pattern is selected.

Drum Selection Menu:

• Preview — tap the play button next to a pattern name to preview it.
• Select — tap the pattern name to load it.
• Add to Favorites — tap the star next to a pattern to save it. Access your favorites via the star on the top-right.
• Filter — tap the filter button on the top-right to filter by genre.

Drum patterns are randomized every time you open the Drum Selection Menu. You can change the drum pattern after a loop is recorded, but only while playback is stopped.

Start Recording

After selecting a drum pattern, tap the Record button in the middle of the bottom circle. A drum fill-in plays for 4 beats, then recording begins.

• Recording stops automatically when the loop length is reached.
• Tapping record early stops the recording, but the loop keeps its full length (the remainder plays with drums only until it replays the loop).

After a recording is complete, time settings cannot be adjusted until you discard the loop.

Dub, Undo & Redo

Tap the center of the bottom circle to begin dubbing.

• Dubbing starts from the moment you press dub.
• You can dub as many layers as you want, and a dub can span multiple cycles of the base loop.

Undo / Redo behaves the same as Simple Looper:

• Tap Undo to remove the last dubbed layer; button switches to Redo.
• Tap Redo to restore the layer.
• If you Undo a layer and then record a new dub, the previously removed layer is permanently lost.
