If you are having trouble updating the firmware on your Spark GO, this guide covers common errors and their solutions.
If you haven't started updating yet:
Before the Update
Computer Does Not Detect Spark GO
Problem: My computer does not detect the Spark GO when connected via USB.
Solution:
- Try a different USB port directly on the computer (not a USB hub).
- Try a different USB cable (use the included USB-C cable if possible).
- Mac users: Try resetting PRAM/NVRAM .
Windows 11: Updater "Not Responding"
Problem: The firmware updater freezes or shows "Not Responding" on Windows 11.
Solution:
- Close the updater completely.
-
Right-click
the updater
.exefile → select "Run as administrator" . - Close all MIDI and audio applications (DAWs, media players, virtual instruments). The updater needs exclusive access to the USB port.
- Try a different USB port directly on the computer (not a hub).
- Try a different USB cable .
- If it still freezes, try the update on a different computer .
Mac: Python 2 and Error -14
Problem: The Spark GO firmware updater requires Python 2 to communicate with the Bluetooth module. On Mac, the updater will try to install Python 2 automatically — if this fails, you may see Error -14.
Solution:
- Download and install Python 2.7.18 manually from the official website.
- Restart the firmware updater.
Note: Python 2 is only needed for the firmware update. You can uninstall it afterwards. It will not affect any Python 3 installation on your system.
During the Update
Error Code Reference

Updater path contains non-English characters.
Solution:
Move the updater to a path with only English characters (e.g.,
C:\SparkGO
).
Error 16
Cause:
Update aborted mid-process.
Solution:
Switch to a different USB port and try again.
Error -3
Cause:
USB connection instability.
Solution:
See
detailed steps below
.
Fixing Error -3 (USB Instability)
Problem: Error -3 indicates the USB connection dropped during the firmware update.
Solution:
- Check USB connection — try a different USB cable and a different USB port. Connect directly to your computer, not through a hub.
- Reinstall USB driver (Windows) — uninstall and reinstall the Spark GO USB Audio Driver, then restart your computer.
-
Reinstall the updater
— delete the current updater, download the latest version, and install it in a path with only English characters (e.g.,
C:\SparkGO). - Force shutdown and retry — disconnect USB, hold the Power/Pair button for 10 seconds, reboot the Spark GO, restart the updater, and try again.
Bluetooth Update Interrupted (5%–37%)
Problem: The update is interrupted during the Bluetooth module phase (between 5% and 37%).
Solution:
- Do not immediately reconnect the USB cable.
- Wait 1–2 minutes until the Spark GO shuts down on its own.
- Restart the Spark GO, then reconnect USB and try the updater again.
Force Shutdown
Problem: The Spark GO becomes unresponsive during or after a firmware update.
Solution:
- Remove the USB cable from the Spark GO.
- Press and hold the Power/Pair button for over 10 seconds until the unit powers off.
- Release the button, then press and hold it again until the Power LED lights up blue .
After the Update
Bluetooth Won't Connect

Solution:
- Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone or tablet.
- Find "Spark GO Audio" and tap Forget / Unpair .
- Open the Spark app and connect to Tone Control first, then connect Spark GO Audio in your Bluetooth settings.
