Using Pedals and Re-Amping

BIAS Head and BIAS Rack are designed to work seamlessly with guitar pedals and re-amping setups, giving you the flexibility to integrate your favorite effects into your signal chain.

Using Pedals with BIAS Head/Rack

BIAS Head/Rack can handle any pedal you throw at it! Simply line them up, set your levels just like a normal amplifier head or combo amp, and you're ready to go.

How Pedals Interact with BIAS Head/Rack

BIAS Head/Rack replicates the same character as normal valve amplifiers, which means:

  • Drive pedals will drive the valves just as they would with a traditional amp.
  • EQ pedals placed before the head will shape the tone of your guitar signal before it hits the amp modeling.
  • Modulation and time-based effects work naturally in the signal chain, just like with any standard amplifier setup.
Connect your pedals to the main input on the front of BIAS Head/Rack, just as you would with any traditional amplifier.

Signal Chain Recommendations

For optimal results, consider the following signal chain:

  1. Guitar → Tuner (if used)
  2. Gain/Drive pedals → Overdrive, distortion, fuzz
  3. Dynamic pedals → Compressor, EQ
  4. BIAS Head/Rack input
  5. Effects Loop (if using time-based effects) → Delay, reverb, modulation

Re-amping with BIAS Head/Rack

Re-amping allows you to send a previously recorded clean guitar signal back through BIAS Head/Rack to capture different amp tones and settings after the initial recording.

What You Need

When re-amping, a re-amp box is usually necessary to match the line-level output from your audio interface to the instrument-level input of the amp.

A re-amp box converts the balanced line-level signal from your interface to an unbalanced high-impedance signal that BIAS Head/Rack expects at its input jack.

Re-amping Setup

  1. Connect your audio interface output to the re-amp box input.
  2. Connect the re-amp box output to the BIAS Head/Rack input.
  3. Connect the Line-Outs from BIAS Head/Rack back to your audio interface inputs for recording.
  4. Play back your recorded clean guitar track through the re-amp box.
  5. Adjust the amp settings on BIAS Head/Rack to dial in your desired tone.
  6. Record the output from BIAS Head/Rack into your DAW.

Re-amping Tips

  • Always record a clean, unprocessed guitar signal (DI) for maximum flexibility when re-amping.
  • Adjust the output level from your interface to avoid clipping the re-amp box or BIAS Head/Rack input.
  • Experiment with different amp models and settings to find the perfect tone for your mix.
  • Consider using the Cab-Sim switch to toggle speaker simulation on or off depending on your recording setup.
