Spark 2 Firmware Troubleshooting

This guide helps you resolve common issues during Spark 2 firmware updates.

  • Update Failure: The update didn't finish successfully.
  • Device Problem: The Spark is unresponsive or 'bricked.'

If you haven't started updating yet:

Before the Update

Computer Doesn't Detect Spark 2

Problem: My computer does not detect Spark 2.

Solution: Please attempt to connect to a different USB port directly on the rear of your computer and refrain from using a USB hub.

For Mac users, please try resetting PRAM/NVRAM: How to Reset PRAM or NVRAM

During the Update

WiFi Keeps Scanning

Problem: The Spark app keeps scanning for Wi-Fi and nothing happens.

Solution: Perform a factory reset on the Spark 2 , connect it to the Spark app, and then update the firmware via OTA again.

Entered Wrong WiFi Password

Problem: I entered the incorrect Wi-Fi password during the firmware update process, and now I'm unable to connect the Spark 2 to Wi-Fi.

Solution: Perform a factory reset on the Spark 2 , connect it to the Spark app, and then update the firmware via OTA again.

Update Process Failed

Problem: The firmware update didn't complete successfully.

Solution: Try updating via USB instead. If the USB update also fails, try:

  1. Use a different computer
  2. Try resetting to factory default before attempting again

After the Update

Can't Connect Bluetooth After Update

Problem: After the firmware update, Spark 2 cannot be connected via Bluetooth.

Solution: Navigate to the Bluetooth settings of your device, unpair or forget the previous connection with Spark 2 Audio, and then open the Spark app to connect Tone Control before connecting Spark 2 Audio.

Amp Powers On But Is Unresponsive

Problem: After the firmware update, my Spark 2 powers on but is unresponsive.

Solution: Please perform a factory reset .

Won't Turn On - Alternative Updater Needed

Problem: The firmware update failed, and now I can't power on the Spark 2.

Solution: This requires a special recovery process:

If the power is interrupted during the MCU update process, the Spark 2 may fail to power on. Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Perform a Factory Reset : If Spark 2 still doesn't respond, proceed with the steps below.
  2. Disconnect USB: Unplug the USB cable to disconnect the Spark 2 from your computer.
  3. Disconnect Power: Unplug the Spark 2 from the power outlet.
  4. Download Alternative Firmware Updater: macOS / Windows
  5. Unzip and Launch Updater:

    For macOS users:
Unzip the updater file, then right-click and select 'Open' to launch it.

    For Windows users:
    Do either of the following:
    • Double-click on Spark 2 Firmware Updater.bat to start the updater.
    • Right-click on Spark 2 Firmware Updater.bat and select "Run as administrator" to start the updater.
If you are unable to launch the firmware updater, please refer to the guide on " Open a Mac app from an unknown developer " or " Run a BAT File on Windows ".
Rest assured, this updater is specifically designed to update your Spark amp. It is completely safe, clean, and free from viruses.
  6. Connect the Spark 2 to your computer via the USB cable, then follow the instructions within the alternative updater to complete the process.

If the Spark 2 doesn't power on and shows a blinking red light on the power button when holding both the power and pair buttons, try this instead: unplug the power supply, hold down the pair button, then plug the power supply back in while continuing to hold the pair button .
  7. If the update is unsuccessful, send us the spark_2_updater.log file from the following folder:
    • macOS: /Documents/PositiveGrid
    • Windows: \Documents\PositiveGrid
