No Sound Troubleshooting for Spark MINI

If your Spark MINI is powered on but you are not getting any sound, follow the steps below to identify the cause and restore normal audio output.

Make sure your firmware is up to date. Connect the Spark MINI to a computer via USB and run the firmware updater.

Before You Begin

  • Confirm the Spark MINI is powered on (Power LED is lit).
  • Open the Spark app on your phone or tablet and confirm it is connected to the Spark MINI via Bluetooth.

Check Volume and Output

Turn up the Guitar Volume knob and the Music Volume knob on the Spark MINI top panel. Also check that your guitar's own volume knob is turned up.

The Spark MINI speaker mutes automatically when headphones or a line-out cable is plugged into the 1/8" Headphone/Line Out jack. Whether you have selected Headphone or Line Out mode in the app, the speaker will be muted whenever a plug is inserted. Unplug any cable from this jack and test again.

If you still have no sound, determine which audio is missing:

  • Guitar sound only — You can hear Bluetooth or AUX music, but no guitar signal.
  • Music playback only — Guitar works fine, but Bluetooth, USB, or AUX audio is silent.
  • All sound — No guitar sound and no music playback at all.

Temperature Warning

The Spark MINI has a built-in temperature protection system. If the status LEDs blink red rapidly, the unit is approaching its temperature limit (operating range: 0 C to 53 C / 32 F to 127.4 F).

If this happens:

  1. Turn off the Spark MINI immediately.
  2. Move it to a cooler location away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  3. Let it cool down for 15-20 minutes before turning it back on.

If the temperature warning activates without the unit feeling hot, please contact Positive Grid Support and provide details about your usage (speaker volume level, playtime duration).

No Guitar Sound

If only the guitar signal is missing:

  1. Try a different instrument cable. A faulty cable is the most common cause.
  2. Try a different guitar. This rules out a pickup or electronics issue on the instrument.
  3. If you use active pickups, check that the battery is not dead.

If the issue persists after testing with a different cable and a different guitar, the input jack may be defective. Contact Positive Grid Support for further assistance.

No Music Playback

The Spark MINI follows this music input priority:

AUX In > Bluetooth Audio > USB Audio

  • When an AUX cable is plugged in, it takes priority over Bluetooth and USB audio.
  • When Bluetooth Audio is connected and active, USB audio will not be available. To use USB audio for recording or playback, disconnect Bluetooth Audio first.
  • If you want to stream music via Bluetooth or USB, make sure no AUX cable is plugged in.

If you are on macOS 26 and experiencing USB audio input issues, see How to Fix Spark MINI USB Audio Input Issue on macOS 26.

Force Restart

If none of the above resolves the issue, perform a force restart:

  1. Unplug the USB cable from the Spark MINI.
  2. Press and hold the POWER button for over 10 seconds until the unit shuts down.
  3. Release the button, then press and hold it again until the Power LED lights up blue.

Factory Reset

If the problem persists, perform a factory reset. This will erase all saved presets, Bluetooth pairing data, Headphone/Line Out Mode settings, and Power Saving settings. Back up your presets in the Spark app first.

For full instructions, see Factory Reset for Spark MINI.

If you still have no sound after completing all the steps above, please contact Positive Grid Support with a description of the issue and any troubleshooting you have already tried.
