This guide will help you troubleshoot Bluetooth connection issues between your Spark amp and the Spark app.
How Spark Bluetooth Works
Spark amps use two separate Bluetooth connections:
- Tone Control (BLE) — Controls your amp settings through the Spark app. You pair this inside the Spark app.
- Bluetooth Audio — Streams music from your phone to the amp. You pair this in your phone's Bluetooth settings.
If tone control works but music doesn't play (or vice versa), you likely only connected one of the two. Both must be connected for full functionality.
Restart Both Devices
Turn off the Spark amp and your phone or tablet. Wait a few seconds, then power both back on and try connecting again.
Remove Old Pairings
Remove the Spark amp from both the Spark app and your phone's Bluetooth settings:
- Open the Spark app → Menu tab → select your product card → tap Forget this device.
- Open your phone's Bluetooth settings:
- iOS: Settings → Bluetooth → find the Spark amp → tap Forget This Device.
- Android: Settings → Bluetooth → find the Spark amp → tap Unpair.
Enter Pairing Mode
After removing old pairings, put the amp into pairing mode so it can be discovered again:
| Product | How to Enter Pairing Mode |
|---|---|
| Spark 2 | Automatic on power-on when no device is connected |
| Spark 40 | Automatic on power-on when no device is connected |
| Spark MINI | Requires a factory reset to clear Bluetooth pairing (see below) |
| Spark GO | Press the Power/Pair button on the side |
| Spark EDGE | Automatic on power-on when no device is connected |
| Spark LIVE | Automatic on power-on when no device is connected |
| Spark NEO | Automatic on power-on when no device is connected |
| Spark NEO Core | Automatic on power-on when no device is connected |
When the amp is in pairing mode, the Bluetooth indicator will flash to signal it is available for connection.
Reduce Interference
- Move away from Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, and other Bluetooth devices.
- Turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices (e.g., speakers, smartwatches, earbuds).
- Close background apps on your phone that may be using Bluetooth.
Try a Different Device
Connect with a different phone or tablet to determine whether the issue is with the amp or your mobile device. If the amp connects fine with another device, the problem is with your phone's Bluetooth settings or hardware.
Factory Reset
As a last resort, perform a factory reset. This will erase all saved presets and Bluetooth pairing data — back up your presets in the Spark app first.
| Product | Factory Reset Guide |
|---|---|
| Spark 2 | Factory Reset for Spark 2 |
| Spark 40 | Factory Reset for Spark 40 |
| Spark MINI | Factory Reset for Spark MINI |
| Spark GO | Factory Reset for Spark GO |
| Spark EDGE | Factory Reset for Spark EDGE |
| Spark LIVE | Factory Reset for Spark LIVE |
| Spark NEO | Factory Reset for Spark NEO |
| Spark NEO Core | Factory Reset for Spark NEO Core |
Reconnect
- Launch the Spark app and go to the Menu tab.
- Tap the + at the top-right corner.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect to your Spark amp.
- Once connected, the green icons on the device card will confirm the connection is successful.
Common Scenarios
"No Devices Found" in the Spark app
- Make sure the amp is in pairing mode (see Enter Pairing Mode above).
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone.
- Try closing and reopening the Spark app.
- On Android: close the Spark app, connect to "Spark Audio" in your phone's Bluetooth settings first, then reopen the Spark app.
Tone Control works, but no Bluetooth Audio (or vice versa)
- These are two separate connections. Tone Control pairs in the app; Bluetooth Audio pairs in your phone's Bluetooth settings. Connect both.
Bluetooth worked before but stopped
- Start from the top — restart both devices, remove old pairings, re-pair. Firmware updates or phone OS updates can reset the Bluetooth pairing state.
New phone or OS upgrade
- You must re-pair the amp with your new phone. Remove old pairings and re-establish the connection.
