Spark App - FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Spark App — Bluetooth connectivity, ToneCloud, Smart Jam, Auto Chord, Spark AI, Looper, and more.

A. Bluetooth & Connectivity

My Spark amp won't connect via Bluetooth.

Follow the Bluetooth Connection Troubleshooting Guide. If the issue persists, contact Support with:

  • Phone / tablet model
  • OS version
  • Spark app version
The Spark app keeps asking to pair with BLE.

Common causes:

  1. The amp's Audio is connected to another device.
  2. You denied the pairing request.
  3. You previously paired with BLE by mistake.

Fix: Turn off other connected devices, go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and manually pair "Spark [Model] Audio", then reboot both the amp and the app.

Bluetooth background music plays from my phone instead of my Spark amp.

Go to your phone's Bluetooth settings and connect to Spark [Model] Audio. If it's not shown, put the amp in pairing mode (Bluetooth indicator blinking), then find and connect Spark [Model] Audio in the device list.

Spark App says "Bluetooth is off."

Make sure Bluetooth is on and permissions are granted. On iOS: Settings → Apps → Spark → ensure Bluetooth access is enabled.

B. YouTube & Music Tab

YouTube asks me to "sign in to confirm you're not a bot."

This is a YouTube security check triggered by your network — not a Spark app issue. Try these steps in order:

  1. Turn off VPN / proxy.
  2. Disable antivirus web protection.
  3. Restart your modem and router.
  4. Try a different Wi-Fi network.
  5. Switch to mobile data.
  6. Disable router-level security (e.g. xFi Advanced Security).

Music Tab won't load / SSL error / "No Connection" messages.

This affects the Music tab, Auto Chord, Spark AI, and even positivegrid.com. Run the Online Internet Debug Tool on the same device/network, try mobile data, and send the results with your device info to Support.

Do I need to log in to play backing tracks in the Music Tab?

No. If you see a login prompt, it's a YouTube requirement — not the Spark app. Usually caused by VPN, proxy, or network restrictions. Try disabling VPN or switching networks.

C. Experience Jimi Hendrix Pack

I can't access or find the Jimi Hendrix Pack.

Log in to your device with the account you used to purchase:

  • Android: Google Play ID used for the purchase.
  • iOS: Apple ID used for the purchase.

Then: Spark app → Music page → Experience Jimi Hendrix banner → tap "Already Purchased?" to restore.

See also: Access Hendrix Content.

I cannot see my purchase of Experience Jimi Hendrix in the app.

Verify the email used for the order matches your Spark app login.

Known UI issue: the preset tag may be missing. Verify by checking whether J.H. amps (e.g. J.H. D-Show Master, J.H. Sun 100S) appear in the AMP menu — if yes, your license is active.

Why does the app show a CPU Overload message when using Wah?

The J.H. Legendary Wah disables Chorus / Flanger / Vibrato / Cloner Chorus on Spark 40, MINI, NEO, and NEO Core due to DSP limits. Spark 2, EDGE, and LIVE are not affected.

D. Preset Management

How do I reset the factory presets in the Spark app?

Delete and reinstall the Spark app.

Warning: This erases all locally saved presets. Back up to Dropbox or ToneCloud first.

See: Backup & Restore Presets.

What happens to my presets when switching between Spark amps?

Presets saved on an amp stay on that amp only. Presets stored in the Spark app itself carry over across different Spark amps.

Can I back up and restore my presets?

Yes. The Spark app supports backup to Dropbox and uploading / downloading via ToneCloud.

See:

Does the Dropbox backup save presets for different amps separately?

No. Dropbox backs up all presets in the Spark app as one set, regardless of which amp was connected. They can be restored to any Spark amp.

Where can I find the artists' presets?

Artist-created presets are on ToneCloud. Open ToneCloud and tap the "Artist" tag.

Do I have to buy the presets in the Spark app?

No. There are factory presets built into the amp, plus many more free presets in the Spark app. You can also find thousands of free presets by logging into ToneCloud.

E. App Functionality & Limitations

Is the Spark app free for Spark owners?

Yes. As long as you own a Spark-series amp, the Spark app is free to use on iOS and Android. You may optionally purchase expansion packs for additional amps, effects, and features.

Is the Spark app available for Mac or PC?

No, and there are no plans to release one. All tone editing must be done via a mobile device (iOS or Android). On computers, Spark amps can only function as USB audio interfaces.

Workarounds: use a larger tablet, or mirror your phone screen to an external monitor.

Can I use the Spark app without a Spark amp?

No. The Spark app is only an editor — all DSP is handled by the amp hardware.

Can I change the signal chain order?

No. The signal chain order is fixed due to DSP design constraints.

Can I change the tuner frequency (e.g. 440Hz to 442Hz)?

No, the tuner frequency cannot be adjusted.

What is the video recording time limit?

15 minutes.

Why does the Spark app have a 17+ age restriction?

Because users can watch YouTube videos in the app, and some music videos may contain content unsuitable for minors.

F. Smart Jam / Auto Chord

The chord detection for a song is incorrect.

Auto Chord detects common guitar chords (major, minor, power, 7th, m7, etc.), but accuracy varies depending on the song's arrangement and audio quality. We are continuously improving this feature.

Can the Spark app transpose songs?

Auto Chord does not support transposing songs. However, you can transpose Smart Jam / Quick Jam tracks.

Can I import my own songs for Auto Chord?

Not possible due to copyright restrictions. Use the built-in YouTube engine to search for songs.

Smart Jam causes the Spark app to crash.

Contact Support with:

  • Device model
  • OS version
  • Spark app version
  • Which drummer triggers the crash
Can I use Smart Jam with headphones plugged in?

Smart Jam does not work with headphones plugged in — it uses your phone / tablet's built-in microphone for audio recording, which is bypassed when headphones are connected.

G. Spark AI

Spark AI doesn't work / shows "Oops, something went wrong."

Log out of the Spark app, close it completely, then log back in. Also check your internet connection and update the app to the latest version.

See also: Spark AI Error: "Something Went Wrong".

The old Spark AI icons (Country, R&B, etc.) are gone after updating.

The Spark AI feature has been upgraded — it now generates one customized preset based on your text input, instead of the category-based presets from earlier versions. The old category icons and pre-shot sounds have been replaced by the text prompt interface.

Can Spark AI use Jimi Hendrix Pack amps / effects?

No. To avoid issues for users who haven't purchased the pack, Hendrix content is excluded from Spark AI. You can manually add them to your signal chain after Spark AI generates a preset.

H. Looper

Is there a looper in the Spark app?

The Looper is available on Spark 2 and Spark EDGE only.

  • Simple Looper — up to 60 seconds of recording.
  • Groove Looper — enhanced looper with drum accompaniment.

See: Using the Looper in the Spark App (Supported Models Only).

What's the difference between Backing Tracks, Smart Jam, and Groove Looper?
  • Backing Tracks — YouTube music videos streamed in the Spark app.
  • Smart Jam — AI-generated drum tracks based on your playing.
  • Groove Looper — enhanced looper with drum accompaniment (Spark 2 / EDGE only).

I. Account & Login

Why did the Spark app log me out / "Session Expired"?

Login sessions last 90 days. Each time you open the app, the session auto-refreshes. If you don't open the app for 90 days, you'll need to log in again.

Local presets are not affected by session expiration.

Can I get the .IPA or .APK file directly?

No. The Spark app is only distributed via the App Store and Google Play for security and intellectual property protection.
